Mother's Day
by Michael Brandes
MOTHER’S DAY
"HUSBANDS, LOVE YOUR WIVES, even as Christ
also loved the church, and
gave Himself for it" (Eph. 5:25). This is
the essence of Mother’s Day! How
fortunate we are to have such wonderful wives
and families.
Today i am speaking up for the wives of
husbands not very often sensitive to their
wives nor to their feelings. True, the Bible
does admonish wives to submit to their
husbands, and so they should. However, the
Bible also says that husbands love
their wives "as Christ also loved the Church."
In my mind, this indicates that the
preeminent command of Christ in this instance
is that husbands first love their wives
before expecting submission in return. Even
though spoken of after wives submitting,
should not husbands should love first, and
expect submission later.
In God's grand scheme of things (the Adam and
Eve example), husbands are
spoken of as the person first responsible for
their wives and families. Husbands were
created first and, therefore, should be
responsible first. In other words, the buck
stops
with the husband. He is to be the spiritual
leader of the home, he is to be the moral
leader
of his family, he is to be the protector of
both home and family, and he is to love his
wife.
The husband should love first, and trust that
his example will be followed later.
Be assured, wives want a strong, loving,
providing, protecting Christian husband
to be proud of and to submit to; they really
do. But they do not want, and should not get,
a
dominating husband void of love for them and
the family. Wives deserve a loving, kind,
gentle, faithful, Christ-like man. Will you be
such a husband today? Will you love first and
worry about submission later? If men resolve
to love unconditionally, and to love first, as
Jesus
loved us, you will have the lovely, submissive
wife you desire.
HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY, DEAR MOTHERS!
