If My People...
by Sandra Moats
This election year has brought the Scripture found in 2 Chronicles
7:14 to the forefront in most Christian’s lives. Though our nation was
founded on Christian principles it has eroded to being a nation in
identity crisis.
When America was young most of the population were Christians. “At
least 51 of the 55 delegates to the Constitutional Convention were members
of Christian churches. Leading political figures in the founding of
America quoted the Bible more than any other source.”
Through the years we have enjoyed the blessings of God because of
being a Christian nation. Back then Christian lives lined up with the
Bible, and most attended church on Sundays. America has been in moral
decline for many years and it has affected the direction and blessings of
this nation.
We are no longer known as a Christian nation. As President Obama
stated in June of 2007, when he told CBS, “Whatever we once were, we are
no longer a Christian nation”. On April 19, 2009, President Barack Obama
stated at a press conference in Turkey that Americans “do not consider
ourselves a Christian nation, or a Muslim nation, but rather, a nation of
citizens who are, uh, bound by a set of values”.
Is this new direction for our country the fault of all America? No, as
Scripture clearly states a nation in need of healing has a populous of
God’s people that need to turn from their own wicked ways. And this is
very true concerning America’s modern day Church. We are in a national
identity crisis in our nation as never before.
God’s Word, the Bible, gives us clear direction for healing of our
nation. There are none of us without sin. Our nation is in desperate need
of healing and clear redirection. For our nation to be redirected towards
being a Christian nation again will not come with electing a new
President, but it will come with God’s people getting on their knees,
turning from their own wicked ways, and crying out to God. His promise is
that when we do this He will hear from Heaven and heal our land. 2
Chronicles 7:14, 15. “If my people, which are called by my name, shall
humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked
ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will
heal their land. Now mine eyes shall be open, and mine ears attent unto
the prayer that is made in this place.”
I have heard numerous sermons over the last few years concerning those
verses in church meetings. And most have said that our country needs to
repent and then we will have revival and awakening. But these verses are
very clear that it is God’s people who are the ones in need to repent, and
we are the ones who need to get it right with God for our land to be
healed.
At a recent service I attended I heard this Scripture preached in the
way it was written by God in the Bible. At the end of the service the
altars were open for believers to pray and seek the Lord for forgiveness.
Many were at the altars praying, but many were not. I don’t think we get
it as Christians; we are living in a nation that is fallen. Many who claim
to be Christians are so neutralized they are no longer salt on earth.
Apathy has settled on the American church and covered it with a
worldly dust. If there ever was an hour to up and shake off that dust,
this is it! As the dust goes the fire of God will shine bright through
you.
The Christian teachings in America have become boiled down to greasy
grace. The flavor of vibrant Christian life has almost been lost. There
are so many teachers heard, and Christian books written with so many
different thoughts, the true Way has been fogged.
This is it Church! America stands at the brink of progression into
persecution of those who believe the Bible and live it. This is the time;
more than any other in the history of our nation, to rise up, shake off
humanistic thinking, and take a firm stand in your faith.
To get back to the Way we must get back to the Bible. Jesus said, “I
am the Way, the Truth, and the Life”. We first must get it right with
Jesus. We must ask God to search our hearts and see if there be any wicked
way in us. If His Holy Spirit enlightens an area that needs repentance
that must be carried through. We must humble ourselves and pray. When that
process is completed the Bible clearly promises that God will hear our
prayers and heal our land. It is so simple! But for a proud people
humbling does not come easy.
Let us again pull out our Bibles and read them daily, taking the words
like our life substance. Again we need to step out and evangelize. More
than most other nations at this point, America needs evangelizing. Reach
out to your neighbors, friends, and those you meet along your journey
through life. Pray for God to shed His light on the Bible, so the Way will
again become clear, not only for you, but also for our nation.
We are in the most difficult president election that I have witnessed.
This election has clearly shown to what level our nation has dropped. Even
though we probably won’t agree with the candidates, use your God given
right to vote. Hear what they said and vote for those who stand for life
in the womb, for the creation of man and woman for marriage, and the
freedom to walk in Christian faith in our school campuses and all other
government places. At one time Christian faith was welcomed everywhere in
this nation. That can be regained if His people will get on their knees
and cry out in repentance. God promises healing to our land. Let us be
assured of our true identity again as a Christian nation again.
