The Name

A rhyme and a riddle
What do we know about Jesus?

Is He Savior and Lord?
If He IS God, that’s important
So why is He largely ignored?
What do you think about Jesus? That’s a good question. Why don’t we think about Him more often is perhaps a better question? And why doesn’t Hollywood talk about Jesus respectfully and sincerely as it does with other religious leaders? Why is the name of Jesus a curse word and His followers a joke?
There is hope in that name like in nothing else. There is power in that Name when used properly and purposefully; and condemnation when it is used in vain. To call out the name of Jesus without faith is like having an echo as a best friend; any comfort is imaginary.
In Romans chapter ten Paul stresses the importance of talking about Jesus, saying “How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without a preacher? 15 How will they preach unless they are sent? Just as it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news of good things!”
Job, as recorded in chapter 42, said ““I have heard of You by the hearing of the ear; But now my eye sees You…” It took hearing and believing to bring Job through those horrific trials, and hearing and believing to see. While “Doubting Thomas” believed in Jesus he wanted physical proof of the resurrection, to which Jesus, after showing His scars to Thomas, said “Because you have seen Me, have you believed? Blessed are they who did not see, and yet believed.”
Jesus said if we are not ashamed of Him He will not be ashamed of us before the Father, so why don’t we use His name? Hebrews 11 declares “ Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” It is not by seeing that we have faith, but to use the name of Jesus is a demonstration of faith to the world and a message of hope for mankind.
Paul knew this when He spoke to the Corinthians, saying in Chapter 13, vs.12 of His first letter to them “For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face; now I know in part, but then I will know fully just as I also have been fully known.” Faith, by hearing, will bring you face to face with Jesus.
The name of Jesus gives us our first glimpse into faith and hope. For those outside the faith it raises curiosity and opens hearts and minds to the message of the Gospel. Is it any wonder Satan mocks the Name and the unbelieving don’t want it spoken in truth? It’s powerful and they know it.
The light only hurts the eyes of those who enjoy the darkness and the name of Jesus brings light. The name of Jesus pricks the conscience of those who dwell in sin; they want that Name silenced.
Revelation 3:5 “He who overcomes will thus be clothed in white garments; and I will not erase his name from the book of life, and I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels. 6 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.’

Do you have an ear? Jesus says if His name is important to you, your name will be important to Him and He will even tell the Father that you know His name! There’s power in the Name!
What can you say about Jesus
Just do it for those with an ear
He does not require great oration
Let those who will cherish it hear
