The Anchor of the Soul
Bruce Parks
In Matthew 7 Jesus told a parable of a wise man and a foolish man. The
wise man built his home on the rock and when the storms came his house
survived. The foolish man, however, built his home on the sand and
when the storms came his house was destroyed.
Did you notice that the storms came to both the wise and the foolish
man. You see just because you are a wise person you are not exempt
from the storms of life.
Storms come because of our own choices. Storms come because of the
actions of others. Storms come because of demonic strategies. And,
well, some storms are just storms. Welcome to planet earth.
Any sea captain will tell you that when a storm comes you don’t ask
“where are the anchors?” You had better know exactly where they are.
The Dictionary say an anchor is anything that stabilizes what it is
attached to.
A Biblical dictionary defines an anchor this way: “Enables the
believer to stand strong, immovable in the face of temptations,
calamities, and storms.”
An anchor is a stabilizer.
What stabilizes your live when the storms come a blowin’?
Hebrews 6:19 says, “This hope we have is an anchor to the soul, a hope
both sure and steadfast…”
The word hope means “a positive expectation.”
When the storms come, and they will unfortunately, where and what are
your anchors?
Here are at least four anchors you came bring on deck of your ship
today.
Psalm 119:68 “God is good, and does good.” God will never to bad
things to you. Ever! If something is bad it’s not from God.
What did God say? You need a treasure chest full of scripture to
stabilize you in the storm.
God did not bring the storm, but He will stay with you in it, and
bring you through it.
Psalm 46:1 “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help
time of trouble.” God is right here, right now!
Finally, remember the biggest, heaviest, strongest anchor is the Lord
Jesus Christ. When a storm comes grab hold of Him and hold fast. He
cannot fail you.
Happy sailing!
