Who Is Giving The Orders?
Timothy Lamb
Years ago actress Shirley MacLaine stood on a beach and, at the
instruction of her own personal “empowerment” guru, shouted across the
expanse of the Pacific Ocean “I AM GOD! I AM GOD!” I suppose she
wanted to be in charge of her own destiny believing this would
accomplish that goal.
Years afterword Christian writer/speaker Frank Peretti poked some fun
at this seen imagining God in Heaven watching Ms. MacLaine claim His
identity. Peretti imagines God calling over Michael the Archangel as
the two of them look down with amusement on this ridiculous little
woman and her self-aggrandizement.
This is becoming a common practice today; not so much proclaiming
one’s self to be God but taking the authority which is the sole
prerogative of the Creator Himself and giving it to ridiculous little
people with small minds and big egos to make decisions that they have
no business making and proclaiming the “Universe Enabler” to be inept
or non-existent.
We all answer to someone; we are all under authority. We know what
will happen if we do not answer to those over us. We know there are
laws and regulations and codes and ordinances; and if nothing else we
know there is death and taxes and there’s no escaping those.
God gave it over to man to create laws of civil harmony and social
protection as necessary and as they correspond with His own Holy and
moral law. He even gave man the right to decide earthly punishment.
He did not, however, give man the authority to usurp God’s own control
over life and righteousness.
So where does man find the gall to challenge the authority of the All
Mighty? How can man expect to escape death? Why does man -
ridiculous little man - believe in his own authority over the laws of
the One who steers the heavens? Puny little man dares give himself
the authority to reign over life and death! Proud little man; who
causes God to look down from His throne and scoff; dares declare the
Word of God out dated or inapplicable for our time so as to imagine he
may remove the judgment from what God finds abominable.
In families where the head – the father or mother - is not given
respect and authority the family is lost.
Governments and corporations and armies must have a chain of command
or they have nothing.
Now look at ridiculous little man shouting “I Am God!” and ask
yourself why the world is falling apart.
“The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away; blessed be the Name of the
Lord.” He’s on the throne. He has the power. He will judge the
living and the dead. So why are we NOT obeying orders? Why is God
not God?
Philippians 2:5 “Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in
Christ Jesus, 6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not count
equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied himself, by
taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. 8 And
being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to
the point of death, even death on a cross. 9 Therefore God has highly
exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, 10
so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on
earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus
Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
Here is empowerment; Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, sits at the
right hand of God the Father with all power and great glory yet He
wants a personal relationship with you. That same hand that flung the
stars into the heavens wants to hold your hand and walk you through
the troubles of your life.
“Oh God, you are my God, and I will ever praise you!” the song goes.
He is our High Priest and our advocate; He is the Way the Truth and
the Life; He is our soon and coming King.
Humble yourself and let God be God.
